Itinerary

Begin your journey with a scenic 3-hour drive from Huaraz through traditional Andean villages and between the contrasting landscapes of the Cordillera Negra and Cordillera Blanca. From Cashapampa, we begin our trek alongside pack animals, ascending through the Santa Cruz Valley to reach Llamacorral Camp.

Highlights:

  • Picturesque drive through rural Andes
  • First night under the stars in the Santa Cruz Valley
  • Gentle acclimatization start

A shorter hiking day allows us to gradually gain altitude as we make our way to the breathtaking Alpamayo Base Camp, set in a verdant valley surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Enjoy the fresh air, flowing streams, and panoramic views as we settle in for the night.

Highlights:

  • Camp at the foot of Alpamayo
  •  Views of Quitaraju and Santa Cruz peaks
  • Running water and eco-friendly toilet facilities at base camp

We leave the grassy valley behind and enter alpine terrain. Our route winds over moraine ridges and glacial rock slabs, leading us to a small, rugged campsite nestled just below the glacier.

Highlights:

  • First contact with glacial terrain
  • Technical approach hike over rocky sections
  • Overnight in a remote moraine setting

Today we tackle ice and snow as we climb to the high camp located near the col between Alpamayo and Quitaraju. This is one of the most technical sections of the ascent, where mountaineering skills come into full play.

Highlights:

  • Icy slopes and snow couloirs
  • Stunning views from the ridge
  • Camp in high alpine terrain surrounded by glaciers

Our summit push begins early, around 2 AM. The route ascends a 300-meter snow and ice wall (up to 70°) to reach the summit of Alpamayo. The climb is steep, technical, and incredibly rewarding.

Highlights:

  • Climb one of the world’s most beautiful peaks
  • 360° panoramic summit views over the Cordillera Blanca
  • Technical snow and ice route up the southwest face

After the adrenaline of the summit, we carefully descend from high camp back to base camp. Enjoy a hearty lunch and take the afternoon to rest and reflect in the tranquil mountain setting.

Highlights:

  • Safe descent with support
  • Warm meal and relaxation at base camp
  • Opportunity to celebrate your summit

We hike back through the Santa Cruz Ravine to Cashapampa, where a private vehicle awaits. Upon returning to Huaraz, enjoy a warm shower, a comfortable bed, and perhaps a well-earned celebration.
