Huayhuash is considered the best of Peru’s mountain areas. Many climbers recommend it and are pleasantly happy with the experience.

This hike takes us through ancient pre-Inca trails surrounded by breathtaking flora and beautiful scenery. It is suitable for anyone who enjoys trekking but requires a good physical condition.

Itinerary

Huaraz – Wilcahuain Lima – Huaraz

For acclimatization tour should be hike around the pre-inca ruins Wilcahuain (3400 m.a.s.l. aprox). Then, we will go down to the Monterey hot springs.

After our breakfast, as always we’ll leave in our trekking climbing up to the Yanagrajirca pass (4400 m.a.s.l), we’ll have lunch after the pass to avoid the wind. Then, a few hours walking down we’ll get our camp site Huecruncocha 3850 m.a.s.l approx.

Overnight in tents.

At 7 am we will breakfast, after it we have to climb to the next pass of Tupatupa 4400 m.a.sl, we’ll have lunch after the pass always to avoid the wind. From here we’ll go down to Jancapampa, our next camp site at 3800 m.a.s.l approx.

This day we’ll climb by the small ravine to Sactaycocha lake to get to Yanajirca at 4600 m.a.s.l. We’ll be on the east side of Pucajirca Mountain, after to get the pass we’ll go down to Huillca where we’ll camp at 4050 m.a.s.l approx.

This day we will have a short day, even we will visit the safuna lake. After that, we will climb the short pass 4500 m.a.s.l. then we will have time to lunch. In tayapampa ravine, a short walk to our camp place at 4300 m.a.s.l approx.

Early in the morning, after having our breakfast, we will climb to reach the next pass of Caracara at 4830 m.a.s.l. This short climb is very windy, and from this pass we have to walk a very deep and long way.

We will have the opportunity to enjoy the most beautiful views from the mountains, almost arriving to our Jancarurish camp. We will make a stop and we will be amazed in front of the most beautiful mountain in the world: Alpamayo and its north face.

We will spend the night in our tents in Jancarurish enjoying the sunset and sunrise on the snowy faces of Alpamayo.

We will camp at 4200 m.a.s.l. approx.

This day after breakfast, we will hike up to the Alpamayo moraine camp to take pictures of the mountain and visit the Jancarurish lagoon.

This day you will be able to discuss and talk about the previous day with the tour leader and our guide about the alternatives to do.

This day our breakfast will be at 7am. and immediately at 8 am we will begin our hike descending by the Alpamayo gorge until ruinapampa where we will have lunch.

Then we will begin again to climb in zigzag until the pass of Ichicvientona at 4750 m.a.s.l. Then we will descend to osoruri 1 km approximately and we will camp.

In the morning we will start climbing again up to the Jatunvientona pass at 4850 m.a.s.l. From here we will descend passing by the base of the most beautiful lagoon of the Cordillera Blanca called Cullicocha which is located at 4625 m.a.s.l.

We will continue descending to Huishcash camp arriving at approximately 3pm.

This day will be our last day of trekking.

Starting at Huishcash camp, we will continue hiking and have lunch in Hualcayan. After that, we will arrive at Huancarhuas hot springs around 3 pm. Here we will have time to enjoy and get to know the surroundings. After relaxing by taking a bath in the hot springs of Huancarhuas, we will continue our hike.

Finally, we will board our bus to Huaraz arriving at 6 pm to our hotel. Our trek will be over.

This day is optional.

We offer our special guests the traditional Pachamanca party at the llama ranch in the rural village of Canrey Chico Recuay, just 25 kilometers south of Huaraz. In this way we bid farewell and thank the group for visiting our country,

In this tour our passengers will enjoy the experiential tours, the lifestyle of the Andean people in the Cordillera Blanca from the Callejon de Huaylas Recuay, Ancash. After lunch our passengers will be taken to Huaraz to the hotel for overnight.

After breakfast at the hotel, passengers will be transferred to the bus station for their return to Lima.

  • Sunscreen, insect repellent, disinfecting alcohol and gel, water bottle and sterilizing tablets, toiletries and toilet paper.
  • Camera (wrapped in plastic bag).
  • Flashlight and batteries.
  • Some snacks like chocolate bars and dry fruit.
  • Original passport, original ISIC student card and extra money in soles.
  • Since the weather can be very cold and moist, your clothes – once gotten wet – won’t dry at night. So take some clothes to change.
