Itinerary

Upon arrival in Andahuaylas, our team will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. After a refreshing rest, we will start our city tour.

We will visit the Main Square, where you will see the San Pedro Cathedral, a beautiful colonial-style church. In the center of the square, you will find an impressive fountain carved from a single stone.

Next, we head to the Campanayocc Sanctuary, located 5 km (30 minutes by car) from Andahuaylas. This modern chapel, completed in 1995, is a place of pilgrimage, especially on September 14, its main celebration day. From here, you will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Andahuaylas and the lush Chumbao Valley.

In the afternoon, we return to the hotel. Overnight in Andahuaylas.

Highlights:

  • Welcome to Andahuaylas, the “Land of the Chankas.”
  • Explore the colonial San Pedro Cathedral and the impressive stone fountain in the main square.
  • Visit the Campanayocc Sanctuary, a spiritual site with breathtaking views of the Chumbao Valley.

After breakfast, we begin our journey to Pacucha Lagoon, located 17 km northeast of Andahuaylas (45 minutes by bus). This lagoon, situated at 3,200 meters above sea level, is known for its intensely blue waters and its surrounding wetlands, home to various species of ducks and other birds.

After a short break, we continue to the Sondor Archaeological Complex, located just 2 km from Pacucha Lagoon (30 minutes on foot). Covering 10 hectares, Sondor sits at over 3,200 meters above sea level and was originally built by the Chanca culture (600-900 AD) before later being occupied by the Incas. The site features a pyramidal structure, surrounded by walls and terraces that lead to spacious open areas.

Sondor is believed to have been a ceremonial and religious center, given the strategic placement of its central pyramid and its direct view of Pacucha Lagoon.

At around 5:00 PM, we return to Andahuaylas. Overnight in Andahuaylas.

Highlights:

  • Discover the Pacucha Lagoon, one of the largest and most beautiful in Peru.
  • Walk through the Sondor Archaeological Complex, an ancient Chanca ceremonial center.
  • Enjoy stunning views and immerse yourself in the region’s rich history.

After breakfast at the hotel, we depart at 7:00 AM towards Chincheros, where we will visit the Cocharcas Sanctuary. This stunning baroque-style temple is located 110 km northwest of Andahuaylas (3-hour drive). Built between 1598 and 1623, the sanctuary was constructed using finely carved volcanic stone (sillar) and features two towers, a semicircular vault, and a beautifully decorated dome.

Inside, you will find priceless artworks from the Cusco School of painting and renowned Spanish artists. The main altar, covered in gold leaf, is a true masterpiece of Andean religious art.
