Day 1: Arrival and Trujillo City Tour
Discover Trujillo, the City of Eternal Spring.
Upon arrival in Trujillo, our team will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel for check-in and rest.
In the afternoon, you’ll begin your exploration of Trujillo, known as “The City of Eternal Spring.” Trujillo was the first city in Peru to declare independence from Spain. The tour will start at the Plaza Mayor, the largest plaza in Peru, and continue with visits to the Trujillo Cathedral, the Cathedral Museum, Belén Church, and the charming Plazuela El Recreo. You’ll also visit the National University of Trujillo’s Archaeological Museum, home to fascinating pieces from pre-Columbian cultures, the El Carmen Monastery (built in 1759), Palacio Iturregui, Casa Calonge, and the Museum of Art.
Afterward, you’ll have some free time before returning to your hotel for the evening.
Day 2: The Ancient City of Chan Chan
Explore the world’s largest mud-brick city and coastal Huanchaco.
After breakfast at your hotel, we’ll start the day by visiting Chan Chan, the ancient capital of the Chimu Kingdom. Chan Chan is considered the largest mud-brick city in pre-Hispanic Latin America, reaching its peak between the 12th and 14th centuries. You’ll learn about the incredible engineering and architecture of the Chimu people, with a special stop at the Temple of the Dragon, featuring beautiful bas-reliefs depicting their connection to the rainbow.
Next, we’ll visit Huanchaco, a picturesque fishing village, where you can enjoy a typical lunch and see the traditional “Caballitos de Totora” — reed boats used by fishermen on their daily fishing expeditions.
In the afternoon, we’ll depart for Chiclayo, where you’ll be transferred to your hotel for the night.
Day 3: The Lord of Sipán Complex and Tucumé Pyramids
Dive into the secrets of ancient Mochica culture and explore the powerful pyramids of Tucumé
After breakfast, we’ll head to the Lord of Sipán archaeological complex, located 35 km southeast of Chiclayo. In 1987, the tomb of the Lord of Sipán was discovered here, with his body surrounded by a warrior, a priest, two women, a child, a dog, a llama, and a guardian with amputated feet. The tomb was filled with remarkable treasures made of gold and silver, adorned with turquoise and lapis lazuli. You’ll learn about the burial rituals of the Moche civilization and the importance of this discovery.
After the visit, we’ll enjoy a break for lunch before heading to Tucumé, an impressive archaeological site with a series of pyramids, once a political and religious center of the Moche people. We’ll explore the ruins and climb the viewpoint to take in the breathtaking views of Tucumé and the surrounding landscape.
At the end of the day, we’ll transfer you to Cajamarca for the night.
Day 4: Cumbemayo: Geological and Archaeological Wonders
Uncover the mysteries of Cumbemayo’s ancient aqueducts and sacred landscapes.
Today, we’ll take you to Cumbemayo, located 3,400 meters (11,300 feet) above sea level. Here, you’ll marvel at the incredible volcanic rock formations, including the Cumbemayo Aqueduct, an ancient hydraulic system that showcases the advanced engineering skills of the pre-Inca civilizations. You’ll also visit the Sanctuary, a large stone head-shaped structure, and the caves with petrographs that offer insight into the spiritual practices of the area’s early inhabitants.
Afterward, we’ll visit the Otuzco Necropolis, an ancient burial site featuring rock-cut tombs set against a stunning mountainous backdrop.
In the afternoon, we’ll return to your hotel in Cajamarca to relax and enjoy your final evening in the region.
Day 5: Departure from Cajamarca
Say goodbye to the unforgettable treasures of northern Peru.
After a delicious breakfast, you’ll have some free time before we take you to the airport or bus station for your departure.
