The citadel of Kuelap is made of stone, but, unlike Inca architecture, it featured fantastic figures and animals, and changed the traditional pattern of geometric designs.
The Kuelap fortress is an architectural marvel. The buildings have circular bases, and some of them have been reconstructed so that the few visitors who come here (due to the difficult access) can see how the local people lived, among orchids and bromeliads.
The Chachapoyas, whose secrets are guarded by the thick foliage, created harmony in a privileged place, a timeless place where the mountain tops are caressed by the clouds.
Upon arrival in Chachapoyas, our representatives will be waiting for you at the bus station to take you to your hotel.
Breakfast at hotel.
Full day excursion to the ruins of Kuelap, an extraordinary fortress that served as a political, military and religious center for the ancient Chachapoyas; the dimension of this complex is still unknown as it remains partially covered by vegetation.
This impressive stone fortress was built by the Chachapoya culture around 800 AD. It is located at an altitude of 3000 m.a.s.l. and covers about 6 hectares. It contains three defense platforms, the first of which is 20 meters high and 680 meters long. Its three entrances are real walled alleys that become narrower as you advance and lead to the next two platforms. Climb the watchtower where you can see the gigantic outer walls in their entirety. Inside there are 420 circular buildings decorated with diamond and zigzag friezes.
Box lunch included.
In the evening return to Chachapoyas and dinner at the hotel.
